Trail Symposium

Over 200 folks came to check out the Trail Symposium in Fort Bragg.Dan Gjerde lead a ride through town and out to MacKerricker State Park. He pointed out some problems with bike lanes in Fort Bragg and possible remedies. We got an update on the bike path planed for Glass Beach and onto the headlands through the Old Mill Site. After the CEQA review is completed work will start on construction on the north section. The southern section and a park area are now in the planning stages. When the decking needs to be replaced on the Pudding Creek Trestle Dan would like the handrails moved out to make passing other users easier. He is also working to get the Haul Rd repaved to its full width.
Neil Davis of the Ukiah Valley Trail Group gave a good presentation. His main point was as we build our local trails out connecting trails between communities will become easier.

Mendocino Land Trust is working on a trail north of the Ten Mile River that is hoped to reach Westport eventually. This trail will be open to cyclists.

MLT hosted a social at the brewery. While there I heard about new trails being built north of Rockport and possible new trails near Willits.

Another Trails Symposium is being planned for inland Mendocino with more details on trail projects there.

Enjoy,

Chris
